[Fall in Oil Prices, Driving Down UK Bond Yields; Longer Yields Lead the Decline] ⑴ UK bond yields fell on Monday as talks between Qatari and Iranian officials and a renewed hope for an end to the Middle East conflict following a US suspension of military operations, coupled with a sharp drop of over $4 in oil prices. ⑵ The 30-year UK bond yield fell as much as 5.646%, its lowest level since August 7, down nearly 8 basis points on the day. The 5-year yield fell as much as 4.869%, its lowest level since October 2, down more than 7 basis points. ⑶ UK bond yields fell more than German and US bonds. The 2-year yield, sensitive to near-term interest rate prospects, fell more than 7 basis points to 4.811%, on track for its biggest single-day drop since October 1. ⑷ The 10-year UK bond yield fell as much as 8 basis points to 5.219%, on track for its biggest single-day drop in six weeks.
