[US Supreme Court May Face Changes; Democrats Could Reverse Conservative 6-3 Dominance] The Democratic victory in the Senate elections will have a significant impact on the US Supreme Court and will change how Democrats consider Supreme Court reform. This not only means that a Democratic-controlled Senate can ensure that Trump cannot appoint any more Supreme Court justices, but also that Democrats should re-examine reform proposals that expand the number of Supreme Court justices or limit their jurisdiction over certain issues. If the Democrats win the presidential election in 2028 and retain control of the Senate, they have the opportunity to reverse the current 6-3 conservative-liberal Supreme Court, to 5-4 liberal. Even disregarding political factors, this possibility exists based solely on life expectancy. The two oldest justices on the Supreme Court, Clarence Thomas (78 years old) and Samuel Alito (76 years old), were both appointed by Republican presidents. Between 1975 and 1999, the average lifespan of US Supreme Court justices was 82.3 years. By 2032, at the end of the hypothetical Democratic president's first term, Thomas will be 84 years old, and Alito will be 82. In the foreseeable future, the Supreme Court may see a majority of justices appointed by a Democratic president, which will also influence related policies.
