A chart: The Baltic Index rose slightly as Capesize and Supramax rates rose

The Baltic Exchange's main ocean freight index, which measures the cost of ships carrying dry bulk cargoes, edged up on Wednesday, driven by gains in Capesize and Suprasize rates.
The main index tracking freight rates for Capesize, Panamax and Supramax vessels rose 8 points, or 0.4%, to 2,025, its highest level since Aug. 8.
The capesize index rose 19 points, or 0.6%, to 3,280 points.
Average daily earnings for capesize vessels, which typically carry 150,000 tonnes of cargo such as iron ore and coal, rose $158 to $27,206.
Dalian iron ore futures closed essentially flat.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax index rose 7 points, or 0.5%, to 1,336, extending its gains to a ninth consecutive session.
The panamax index fell for the fifth consecutive session, down 1 point, or 0.1%, to 1,594 points. The index hit its lowest level since July 8.
Average daily earnings for Panamax vessels, which typically carry 60,000-70,000 tonnes of coal or grain, fell $17 to $14,342.
